Requirements

Accreditation to zones

The challenge K.S.C. faces every year is to set up a system that allows efficient access authorisation and ticket issuance to a large number of different groups of involved participants or guests who have received a special invitation during the event in a short period of time.

These groups are divided into athletes and team members, VIPs, officials, security personnel, media representatives and of course the organising committee.

Another very important security measure is ensuring that access to critical areas such as the race tracks is only granted to people who are authorised and fully qualified.

Managing VIP guests

The management of VIPs did not only consist of registering people for a single event, but also required the knowledge about participation in side events and any escorts.

Finally, VIP tickets sold directly by the ski club had to be electronically controlled in an unobtrusive but reliable and seamless manner. The aim was to limit unauthorised access and enable constant monitoring of certain areas.

Offline Mode

Another requirement arose from local topography: Not all areas had cell phone or WiFi data coverage, which meant that tickets or permits had to be checked even if the device was entirely in "offline" mode and did not have access to a central database.

Lastly, certain accreditation badges - depending on the group of people - required a badge photo or enabling lift access in order to reach the start area.

Solution

Software

On the mtms Solutions cloud-based platform, it was possible to migrate the data that had previously been distributed across several systems into a single database and remove duplicates and still ensure that different users of the system within the organisation could only access the personal data that was relevant to them.

To enable the issuing of accreditation passes in combination with the ski pass, mtms and its system partners have developed a solution that allows the RFID chip used by the cable cars to be additionally encoded and optically printed. The data relevant for access control is then applied to a separate chip layer.

The accreditation badge was provided with ID photo and personal & access data.

The access authorisations were issued on plastic badges in XL format with a QR code.

Hardware

Handheld readers, available both online and offline, were used to check access authorisations.

Designed for outdoor use, they withstood even the harshest weather conditions, being operated with gloves on.

mtms Solutions thus ensured a fast and smooth passage control at all entry checkpoints.

Key facts

✓ 15.500 contact records

✓ 5.000 accreditations incl. VIP´s

✓ 24 access control devices

✓ 4 system users

“It was very important to us that the accreditations can be combined with the lift pass on a single data carrier - a real USP and a workload reduction for the Hahnenkammrennen staff. “
